One of the most asked questions we hear at the Salon at Lakeside is “how often should you cut your hair?”
Most people know when they want to have their hair trimmed and styled based on their personal preferences. But, there is something else that is important to consider when it comes to determining how often you should visit your favorite hairstylists!
And, that is the HEALTH of your hair!
Healthy hair is not only better in general for everyone, but it can also help you look and feel younger and more vibrant.
We are all in agreement that healthy hair is better hair! But, let’s look at some of the things that may cause you to consider your scheduling appointments more frequently:
- The Length Of Your Hair
- How You Style Your Hair
- Is Your Hair Chemically Treated
The Length Of Your Hair
It makes sense that regularly scheduled haircuts will help keep your hair healthier. As your hair gets longer the ends tend to split and the hair not only looks damaged but is older and more fragile.
Because most hair tends to grow approximately one half-inch each month, after a few months the ends will become drier and more brittle, and given the weather conditions here in Las Vegas, the impact on your hair’s health can be even further compounded.
Women who have longer hairstyles tend to face more challenges when it comes to keeping their hair healthier and more vibrant. If you tend to wear your hair long you may want to consider scheduling your hair cuts more frequently, even to just manage a quick trim of the ends so you don’t end up with the split end look above.
How You Style Your Hair
How you style your hair also plays an important role in the health of your hair. Many women spend a significant amount of time blowdrying their hair, especially if it is thicker and longer. The heat from the blowdryer certainly will damage your hair and the more often and longer periods of time you blowdry your hair will increase the likelihood of adding damaging effects as time goes on.
In addition, if you curl your hair, or use any other sort of heat to style it, you may be adding damage to your hair each day.
Fortunately here at The Salon at Lakeside, we carry the best products available in the industry which are designed help reduce the damage to your hair during, and after your daily styling.
Chemically Treated Hair
Chemically treated hair tends to be more fragile than simply longer hair that is styled normally. Chemicals, such as hydrogen peroxide or ammonium hydroxide are often used for bleaching hair. Stylists may also use chemical treatments to change your hair’s texture. In addition, chemical hair relaxers, which usually consist of sodium hydroxide or ammonium thioglycolate, help to turn curly hair straight.
To keep hair from breakage and further damage, go for a trimming session with one of our stylists here at The Salon at Lakeside a minimum of every four-eight weeks.
